The typeface was created in the 1920's Britan. The typeface was designed to be timeless and compete with many of the popular German fonts at the time. Gill Sans is inspired by Roman letters found on ancient monuments such as imperial arches. My goal is to convey the shape of Roman arches such as the Arch of Trajan in the background to symbolise where the font started, and to incorporate the colour pallet and shape the British Railway signs such as those found in the London Underground system into the main title font to represent where it ended up.
